Hi,

For some time, I have been trying to procure a copy of the TAWK text processing program. However, the author Thompson Automation Software is no longer actively selling software.

I have contacted the author who agreed in principle to sell me a copy. Although his Web site is still there, he is not responding to my messages.

I'm wondering if anyone is using the program and finds it to be highly acdcessible and if I should persist in my attempts to get it??

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Have you considered the GNU licensed version of the AWK text processing program? Everything under the GNU public license is free. I think you'll find GAWK as a part of the Cygwin suite of applications.

Thanks Dave, I will investigate it. My requirement is that whatever program I use must operate in the GUI environment; when I consider how they had to drag me kicking and screaming out of DOS...

The thing I liked about TAWK, is that you can build stand-alone applications.

Thanks again and I shall check it out...

I think you can build scripts in the GNU AWK, but, they're not stand-alone applications. Or, are they, when GAWK is set up as a Windows scripting host? Hmnm. I know you can do that with PERL. Have you looked at the possibilities of Auto IT Script? That works tototally within the GUI and is free.
